About Dr Rosalind White

I am a Victorianist interested in questions of materiality, digital humanities and the growing field of research on the history of emotions. My doctoral thesis interpolated between the history of science and the history of emotions, two interdependent fields that mutually orbit around the same question: what stories emerge from the past when we cease mining it for teleological argument? In 2021 I co-wrote Pre-Raphaelites in the Spirit World alongside Professor Barrie Bullen and Lenore Beaky. This fascinating project entailed transcribing, contextualising and providing explanatory notes for William Michael Rossetti’s Séance Diary – a remarkable document in both the history of Pre-Raphaelitism and nineteenth-century spiritualism.

I am currently Research Associate on the ‘Finding Middlemarch‘ project at Royal Holloway, University of London and Research Fellow in Corpus Linguistics at the University of Birmingham as part of the CLiC Dickens Project. The CLiC web app, is a corpus tool that allows you to digitally explore the language of nineteenth-century fiction. If you are a historian or literary scholar interested in delving into the CLiC corpora, or are interested in submitting an article to us, you can find me on Twitter @DrRosalindWhite and @CLiC_Fiction.
